Medical Cannabis Links There is abundant information on the active ingredients in cannabis, and how they work to alleviate pain, stimulate appetite, reduce or eliminate nausea, reduce inflammation, relax smooth muscles (such as bronchioles in spasm in asthma or intestines in spasm in a variety of gastrointestinal conditions ), combat stress, fight depression, prevent epilepsy, among other beneficial effects. The following two physicians have created websites with a wealth of information about Medical Cannabis. They are two of the leading experts in the field. Tod Mikuriya, M.D., a leading authority and pioneer in the field of Medical Cannabis. Dr. Mikuriya has recently left his body. Our gratitude to Dr. Tod for his many contributions to the medical field, particularly his pioneering work in medical cannabis. Lester Grinspoon, M.D., a leading authority and pioneer in the field of Medical Cannabis. Here are some websites by non-medical leaders in the field. Jack Herer, including his classic work Emperor With No Clothes, that tells the truth about the entire hemp plant, including its history and importance in the development of the United States (hemp paper, hemp fabric, hemp ropes - even the word "canvas" comes from the root cannabis), the history of how and why all hemp products were made illegal in the late 1930's. It was Jack that tracked down "Hemp For Victory," the movie made by the United States Department of Defense during World War II, when hemp products were urgently needed for making war products such as parachutes, rope, etc. Chris Conrad is an expert on medical cannabis. Cliff Schaffer's Drug Library, an excellent resource.
The November Coalition - working to end drug war injustice. Society of Cannabis Clinicians --Includes information on each CA County's implementation of HSC §11362.5 aka the Compassionate Use Act, CCUA, aka Proposition 215. Founded by Dr. Mikuriya. The California Compassionate Use Act of 1996 site, compiled by DrugSense.org, contains original and official primary documents relating to the ongoing implementation of CCUA (Proposition 215). Many many more websites are not listed here. Try "medical marijuana" or "medical cannabis" on your favorite search engines. Or pair the above with any disease condition. There is more information about medical cannabis than there is about any other drug. It just happens the one area lacking is "placebo-controlled clinical trials," which when compared with other sources of information about drugs, usually is not so crucial, especially when there is otherwise a wealth of information, as is the case with cannabis. Clinical use of a substance tells a good clinician whether a drug or treatment is useful. At this level, cannabis is truly a wonder drug. Many people are greatly benefited by it. |
