Case of the Moment, Nov 24, 2007 A Shot in the Arm for Back Pain CT is 34 year old gentleman with chronic back pain. Following a work related injury almost a year ago, he suffers from daily pain. One half hour of stretching in the morning, followed by a hot soak, and the pain is 1-2 on a scale of 10. Without the stretching and hot bath, he is typically 6 on a scale of 10 of pain, very uncomfortable to move or be still in any position. CT did not do the morning routine to bring down the pain, and walked into my office in pain to try out the famous colchicine injection. It is famous because, in cases of pain from herniated, degenerated, or otherwise compromised discs, an intravenous injection of colchicine relieves most or all of the pain within ten minutes, except in cigarette smokers. The treatment was developed by Dr. Michael Rask of Las Vegas. The treatment has been essentially bypassed by the regular medical community. It has been picked up by the alternative medicine community, perhaps because it both is from a plant originally and is dramatically effective. For CT, in ten minutes he was back to 1 on a scale of 10. |
